Here's a little backgrounder for Mr. Quintos:

Born 15 March 1939, Rolando's dream was always to be a teacher. Building People for a Better Country and a Better World always seemed to him more important than building roads and buildings, even houses and school buildings.

That is why he always strove to be an outstanding student in school, becoming class Valedictorian of his Grade School Class (1952); Valedictorian of his High School Class of 1956; and graduating Magna Cum Laude and Class Valedictorian at the Ateneo De Manila University (AB Clas of 1960).

After one year of teaching History under the tutorship of Dr. Horacio Dela Costa, S.J., he was awarded a Fulbright-Smith Mundt Scholarship and hi did graduate work in History and Political Science as the University of Pennsylvania from 1961-1964, acquiring his M.A. in History and completing all the course work for his PhD, excluding only the submission of his doctoral dissertation.

From 1965 to 1970, he taught History and Political Science at the Ateneo De Manila University, serving as Chairma n of the History Department from 1967 to 1969. He served as Program Director at Operation Brotherhood International from 1969-1970.

He served as Director of Social Development Office of the EDF (Economic Development Foundation) from 1970-1971. Under the supervisin of Dr. Sixto K. Roxas, he prepared the founding papers of PBSP (Philippine Business for Social Progress) becoming its first Associate Director under its first Executive Director, Dr. Horacio Dela Costa, S.J.

Starting 1972, Rolando founded SSI (Success System Institute) and in 1980, co-founded HOPPCOR (Human Organization for Peak Performance). With the SSI and HOPPCOR Teams, he has served the top managements and the work forces of such clientele as IBM, United Laboratories, UNISYS, UNIPHIL, Philamlife, Pioneer Life, Grepalife, Insular Life, FILWAY, Professional Pension Plans, Pacific Plans, FIL-ESTATE, CENECO, AWECA, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Subic Bay Yacht Club, Subic Waterfront Development Corporation and Waterfront Village Securities Corporation, among many others. Among his most noteworthy projects was serving the GSIS under Roman A. Cruz Jr. – to become a truly united human organization for Peak Performance (between 1976 and 1980).

Starting in the late 1970's and 1980's, SSI and HOPPCOR collaborated to serve great numbers of people - in groups of 100, 400 and even 1,000 - through the Success Sales Theaters and Success Theaters for Peak Performance at the PICC (Philippine International Convention Center) and at the PHILAM Life Auditorium. He has become one of the most sought-after motivational speakers, and when he conducts a one-day motivational program, his corporate clientele pay a fee ranging from Php 80,000 to Php 150,000.00 per weekend workshop.

Rolando N. Quintos has become one of the most effective facilitators in bringing about Teamwork and harmony between Top Managements and the rest of the total Workforce.

From 1972 to present, Rolando N. Quintos committed himself to Research and Development in the field of Human Resource Management. He has since developed some of the Most Cost-Effective Techniques, Tools and Systems to assist Managers and Workers to Build together Human Organizations for Peak Performance.

Today, Mr. Quintos serves as Chairman of Performance Services and Training Network and PNI International and President of PNI Eco Systems Technologies Corporation.

Top Agenda for PICS 2007 National Convention

By: Bob R. Acebedo

By all indications, this year’s 30th or pearl anniversary national convention of the Philippine Instrumentation & Control Society (PICS) promises to be unmistakably different – or so it is, according to its organizers.

“Unassumingly, aside from the fact that we are celebrating the pearl foundation anniversary of the society this year, we have likewise planned that this year’s national convention and PICShow will be something differently new –or, at least, bigger in terms of participation, compared to the previous ones – and distinctly memorable or beneficial to all participants in terms of focus as gleaned or reflected by this year’s theme,” Dennis Masula, PICS Vice President-External and Convention Committee Chairman, revealed in an interview with I&CE.

Slated on October 4-12 this year at the Philippine Trade and Training Center (PTTC), Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, the PICS pearl anniversary national convention and PICShow 2007 has adopted the theme “Empowering Philippine Industry for Globalization,” to pave the principal agenda or focus of this year’s convention on helping the country’s techno-industrial sector, particularly in the field of instrumentation and automation, competitively at par with the demands of globalization.

“Undoubtedly, we cannot simply underestimate the very significant role of Filipino Instrumentation and Control practitioners, not just in terms of their global employability but more so of their important contribution to the local industry. Especially now that the country’s global competitiveness has to be ensured to the extent that instrumentation and control systems for our local industries has but an absolute necessity, we then hope that it’s high time for PICS to empower the Philippine Industry for globalization,” Masula explained.

Highlighting the week-long PICS annual event is the PICShow2007 – the country’s premiere instrumentation, process control, scientific and laboratory instruments, measurement and test instruments, and industrial, building, factory automation systems exhibition – on October 10-12,2007.

PICShow 2007, according to Masula, aims to – aside from making the Filipino Instrumentation and Control technologist globally competitive – showcase the latest instrumentation, control and automation technology with the hope of improving productivity and production quality.

Making up for what is missed during the last year’s convention, the 2007 PICS national convention will push through with its Industry-Academe Convergence, a whole-day symposium jointly participated in the by the academic sector (represented by the various schools, colleges and universities offering instrumentation and control courses), the government sector (notably government agencies like the DOST, CHED, TESDA, DOLE and others) and PICS corporate members or companies engaged in instrumentation and automation, as well end-user companies, on October 11, 2007.

The PICS 30th national convention kicks off with the PICS Certification Review on October 4-6, and PICS Certification Examination, on October 8, for Instrumentation and Control engineers and technicians. Aside from PICShow 2007 as highlight event, other activities during the PICS Pearl anniversary national convention include the PICS Instru-Quiz on October 12, Miss PICS 2007 Pageant on October 12, and the PICS General Membership Assembly and Fellowship also on October 12.

PICS Vice President-External and convention committee chairman Dennis Masula cannot be less optimistic about the said forthcoming “big” event of the society, “I am certainly hopeful that this year’s PICS pearl anniversary national convention will draw even a bigger crowd in terms of participation. So I am inviting all prospective participants – I&C students, professionals and practitioners, member schools, as well as corporate exhibitors – to signify their participation as early as now and avail of our special discounted rates.”
