By all indications, this year’s 30th or pearl anniversary national convention of the Philippine Instrumentation & Control Society (PICS) promises to be unmistakably different – or so it is, according to its organizers.
“Unassumingly, aside from the fact that we are celebrating the pearl foundation anniversary of the society this year, we have likewise planned that this year’s national convention and PICShow will be something differently new –or, at least, bigger in terms of participation, compared to the previous ones – and distinctly memorable or beneficial to all participants in terms of focus as gleaned or reflected by this year’s theme,” Dennis Masula, PICS Vice President-External and Convention Committee Chairman, revealed in an interview with I&CE.
Slated on October 4-12 this year at the Philippine Trade and Training Center (PTTC), Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, the PICS pearl anniversary national convention and PICShow 2007 has adopted the theme “Empowering Philippine Industry for Globalization,” to pave the principal agenda or focus of this year’s convention on helping the country’s techno-industrial sector, particularly in the field of instrumentation and automation, competitively at par with the demands of globalization.
“Undoubtedly, we cannot simply underestimate the very significant role of Filipino Instrumentation and Control practitioners, not just in terms of their global employability but more so of their important contribution to the local industry. Especially now that the country’s global competitiveness has to be ensured to the extent that instrumentation and control systems for our local industries has but an absolute necessity, we then hope that it’s high time for PICS to empower the Philippine Industry for globalization,” Masula explained.
Highlighting the week-long PICS annual event is the PICShow2007 – the country’s premiere instrumentation, process control, scientific and laboratory instruments, measurement and test instruments, and industrial, building, factory automation systems exhibition – on October 10-12,2007.
PICShow 2007, according to Masula, aims to – aside from making the Filipino Instrumentation and Control technologist globally competitive – showcase the latest instrumentation, control and automation technology with the hope of improving productivity and production quality.
Making up for what is missed during the last year’s convention, the 2007 PICS national convention will push through with its Industry-Academe Convergence, a whole-day symposium jointly participated in the by the academic sector (represented by the various schools, colleges and universities offering instrumentation and control courses), the government sector (notably government agencies like the DOST, CHED, TESDA, DOLE and others) and PICS corporate members or companies engaged in instrumentation and automation, as well end-user companies, on October 11, 2007.
The PICS 30th national convention kicks off with the PICS Certification Review on October 4-6, and PICS Certification Examination, on October 8, for Instrumentation and Control engineers and technicians. Aside from PICShow 2007 as highlight event, other activities during the PICS Pearl anniversary national convention include the PICS Instru-Quiz on October 12, Miss PICS 2007 Pageant on October 12, and the PICS General Membership Assembly and Fellowship also on October 12.
PICS Vice President-External and convention committee chairman Dennis Masula cannot be less optimistic about the said forthcoming “big” event of the society, “I am certainly hopeful that this year’s PICS pearl anniversary national convention will draw even a bigger crowd in terms of participation. So I am inviting all prospective participants – I&C students, professionals and practitioners, member schools, as well as corporate exhibitors – to signify their participation as early as now and avail of our special discounted rates.”
